Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese brought their rivalry from college to the WNBA, and it helped attract more attention to the league than ever before. Some members of their respective fan bases have been toxic online, with Reese making her feelings about Clark and her fans clear.

In an appearance on “360 with Speedy Morman,” the Chicago Sky star opened up about her rivalry with Clark. She said what they had between them was merely competition, which started when they were young and playing AAU basketball.

Reese expressed frustration over how fans sometimes exaggerate their rivalry.

“It’s been competition since college,” Reese said. “Being able to play against Caitlin, I’ve been playing against Caitlin since we were probably in eigth or ninth grade.”

“We both were really competitive during AAU. I went to Maryland, she went to Iowa, we competed there, and then finally being able to compete in the national championship. People don’t know the legacy of us being able to play against each other for a really long time.”

The Rookie of the Year runner-up added:

“People don’t realize, at the end of the day, we’re humans. You guys watch us and knowing that it’s just basketball. I promise you, it’s just basketball. I don’t have any hard feelings towards her. She doesn’t have any hard feelings towards me. But yeah, it gets crazy sometimes.”

Both struggled early into their WNBA careers but proved that they belonged among the best in the world. Clark had a dominant season and led the Indiana Fever to their first playoff berth in eight years, while Reese established herself as one of the best rebounders in the league.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal last month, Angel Reese opened up about her rookie season in the WNBA. Reese even teased the possibility of teaming up with Caitlin Clark in the future.

“We brought a lot of fans to this league,” Reese said, according to Bleacher Report. “And I think we’re going to continue to do that. And one day, hopefully, we’ll be teammates.”

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark just finished their first season in the WNBA and won’t be eligible for free agency for three more years. The Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever are likely to lock them up to extensions when the time comes.

In the 2024 season, the two teamed up at the All-Star Game.
