Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky is staying busy this offseason in preparation for her stint on Unrivaled in January. Reese was one of the best rebounders in the WNBA as a rookie, but her offensive game needed improvement. She was seen working on her post moves and layups in a video uploaded on social media.

One of the main criticisms Reese received as a rookie was her finishing around the rim. There were times when she could have passed the ball to an open teammate after an offensive rebound rather than taking a contested layup. She was prone to blocks because of her low release point in the paint.

In the video, the Sky forward was seen in the gym practicing her post moves and layups. She did a faceup crossover move before finishing the layup with her off-hand. She underwent surgery on her left hand in September, but she’s been cleared to ramp up her activities.

While not a lot of people are expecting Angel Reese to make the jump as an offensive threat next season, the Chicago Sky star is working on her shooting this offseason. Reese went viral when a video of her making a 3-point shot in practice was shared on social media.

There were some changes to her shooting mechanics as she swished the shot from beyond the arc. It’s certainly a good option to have, but it’s not her game. Maybe she can take one or two when she’s open, but not regularly.

Her inside game needs work, especially after getting offensive rebounds. It would be helpful to the Sky’s offense if she can start posting up more although they have Kamilla Cardoso for that. Cardoso is more offensively polished than Reese, who could also make a difference on the defensive end.

Angel Reese to play for Unrivaled in January

Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty and Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx founded Unrivaled, a 3-on-3 basketball league set to start in January. It boasts a competitive salary enough for WNBA players to not sign with overseas teams during the offseason.

There will be six teams in its inaugural season, with six players each. There are already 30 players announced as part of the league roster with six more players set to be revealed later.

Angel Reese was the 10th player announced for the league, joining fellow Chicago Sky player Marina Mabrey. There are rumors that Reese’s rival and Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is set to join as well.

It has not been confirmed with Clark telling reporters during her exit interview at the end of the season that she prefers to be out of the spotlight. However, she will be in the spotlight later this week as she competes at The Annika, an LPGA pro-am golf tournament in Florida.
